Product Description

Race Rx is a next generation sports drink powered by a proprietary, slow release energy source (HDA™) to keep you feeling stronger for longer. Race Rx contains no sugar and no maltodextrin so it won't cause bloating or nausea when you're in the thick of the action mid race. Unlike many other starch based endurace fuels Race Rx has a clean, neutral taste, with a light citrus flavor. Race Rx is easy to drink, easy to digest, and provides an elevated energy level that helps you to race harder for longer.

As well as our unique slow release energy Race Rx contains a scientifically formulated complex of electrolytes with an emphasis on Potassium (the main electrolyte associated with cramp) in order to keep you comfortable and cramp free even during the longest races and training, no matter the heat, humidity, or altitude.

A B-vitamin complex to ensure your metabolism is always running in top gear and that no mater how long you have been going for you can still acces the energy in your fuel. (B-vitamins are essential to metabolism, without them you can't extract energy from food).

Anyone that has finished a serious long distance events such as an Iron Man, or a Marathon can attest to the aches and pains that plague competitors in the last miles of the race. Sore knees and sore ankles will make your race a lot less enjoyable and rob you of time. Race Rx includes a natural, highly effective anti-inflammatory to combat these issues and keep you racing stronger for longer.

If you're serious about your endurace sports it's time to step up to an endurace drink that is as serious as you are. Race Rx.

DIRECTIONS:

Mix 1 level scoop of Race Rx with 16 fl oz of cold water, shake vigorously to mix. For optimal performance drink 1 serving 30 minutes before exercise, and 1 additional serving during each hour of exercise.

How To Use:

Mix one scoop of Race Rx with 16 fl oz of cold water and shake vigorously. A mixer cup is great for this but not essential, a standard water bottle works just fine. If your water bottle only holds 16 fl oz in total then fill it about half full, add one scoop of Race Rx, shake, then top off to 16 fl oz.

Take one serving of Race Rx about 30 minutes before exercising, allowing time for it to clear from the stomach so you’re not starting out feeling full. Then one serving for every additional hour of exercise. There is always going to be some personal preference involved here, some people like more and some like less, listen to your body and feed it what it needs.

What Makes Race Rx Special?

Race Rx is different to the vast majority of ‘sports beverages’ currently available. Race Rx derives it’s power from a patent pending natural plant fuel with some unique characteristics.

  • High Density Amylopectin (HDA™). Not all starch is created equal, and different plants produce radically different types of starch with very different properties.  The proprietary starch complex in Race Rx has what scientists refer to as an ‘A type packing structure’, this means the sugar molecules that make up the starch (specifically the amylopectin portion of the starch) are arranged in a series of close packed double helicies. Greater packing density means more fuel in a smaller volume (which is good) and a slower release of sugar to the blood stream on digestion (also good). Other plants such as corn or potato (used in some products today) have a looser, less dense ’B type packing structure’. If you want the best product you have to start with a plant that makes the best starch.

  • High Relative Solubility in Water. Most starch dissolves poorly in water, giving it a ‘paste like’ feel in the mouth when you drink it, and a 'chalky' taste. If you’re already feeling a bit rough half way through a race the last thing you need to be drinking is something that turns your stomach, even a little can be enough to spell disaster. Race Rx’s unique starch more readily dissipates in water so it feels and tastes more like water making it much easier to drink.

  • Low Osmotic Potential. The starch in Race Rx is composed of  “osmotically inactive water soluble granules 5 – 40 μm in diameter”. What does that mean for you? Well, osmotically inactive means that the microscopic strach grains don’t pull water in, and that’s important when you drink Race Rx, it means the starch does not pull water into your stomach from your blood stream, instead it sits temporarily in your stomach before being passed through to your small intestine.  Contrast that with a sports drink containing simple carbohydrates like sugar or maltodextrin. Both of these do exert an osmotic pull and will bring water into your stomach from your blood stream. This has the effect of temporarily dehydrating you (bad),  filling your stomach (bad), and contributing to nausea (definitely bad).

  • Zero Simple Sugars. Simple sugars such as glucose, fructose, dextrose, sucrose, etc., are rapidly absorbed into the blood stream. In effect they get ‘dumped’ into your blood stream in one hit right after you consume them. Having more sugar sounds good, but if you add it all in one shot like that your body will respond by secreting the hormone insulin. Insulin stimulates your body to pull sugar out of the blood stream and store it. The net result is that you experience a brief sugar high as the sugar enters the blood, but within a matter of minutes insulin is working to reduce the sugar level in the blood, 15 or 20 minutes later your blood sugar level will actually dip below the point it was at before you ate all that sugar, this is the crash, caused by your bodies reaction to all that sugar hitting it in one go. Crashing like this causes symptoms of nausea, muscular weakness, a lack of concentration and alertness. Want to avoid the crash? avoid the simple sugar.

  • No Maltodextrin. Moderate complexity carbohydrates are ok in small doses (in fact Race Rx contains a low dose in the form of Amylose, which helps to maintain a healthy blood sugar level as part of our proprietary carbohydrate complex). But you don’t want moderate complexity carbohydrates to form the mainstay of your fueling strategy. Why? because they exert a high osmotic pressure, drawing fluid into the stomach and leaving you feeling bloated. If you’re adrenalin level is high (like it is on race day), your body is channeling blood flow away from your stomach, and things like maltodextrin can end up sitting in your stomach like a rock. That’s why you’ll often see people at the side of the road vomiting (sorry there’s no nice way to put that) part way through the bike leg, sometimes on the run. Chances are pretty good they are getting rid of a stomach full of carbohydrate they couldn’t digest. Unfortunately they also just threw up all the water it sucked out of their blood stream as well, so now they’re dehydrated to boot. Training is tough, race day is tougher still. Make sure your fuel clears quickly and easily from the stomach and doesn’t leave you at the side of the road wishing you’d done things differently.

  1. Great fuel, no GI issues 5 Star Review

Posted by on 25th Feb 2015

I have not been able to use any sports drink on the market without uncomfortable gas. This is the first! The fact that it doesn't dissolve fully is a very small price to pay for the very even release of fuel (no sugar crash), pleasant taste and happy gut! I have friends who have severe dietary restrictions (one is no corn, no gluten, the other can't tolerate simple sugars), and both of them are also able to use this product with no issues. It's a terrific resource!
